Store Fronts in Lakeville, MN
Rich in history, Lakeville can trace its origins back to 1853, when Captain William B. Dodd, who came from the Eastern United States to serve the military forts in the Minnesota Territory, designed and directed the construction of a road that would serve as a practical land route connecting the military forts in St. Paul to the more southern forts. The road, which was named for Captain Dodd after he was killed in the Sioux uprising in 1862, bisects present-day Lakeville.
The city became notable in 1910 when Marion Savage built the Dan Patch Railroad Line to service his Antlers Amusement Park. Subsequently, Lakeville became a flourishing milling center from this line, and today the agriculture industry still is in operation. Large farms produce leading revenues in corn, soybeans, and dairy cattle.
Lakeville maintains a total of 62 public properties, which include a senior center, an arts and entertainment center, dozens of various neighborhood and community parks, and miles of multipurpose trails. Lakeville contains several lakes as well as smaller ponds and wetlands within its borders. The two largest lakes include Lake Marion and Orchard Lake, which are recreational lakes used for fishing, boating and swimming. |
